We spent most of Monday at Belmont Lake State Park. We had friends and family from people at Crossroads all come together for a time to catch up on what is going on in life, as well as to eat a lot of good food. In the process, we also gave out about 200 bags containing school supply products. These items were extremely well-received and people expressed deep appreciation for the items.
Luis and I met at the park early on Monday morning to reserve an area and some tables. There were around 50-60 people who showed up, so this turned out to be a good idea. Luis had to leave to pick up some other stuff, so I was in charge of making sure that the 10 or 12 tables that we had set aside didn't go anywhere.
As I was sitting on top of one of the picnic tables, not doing anything in particular, a Korean gentlemen came up to me with a plate of pork that they had been grilling. I looked over and noticed about 20 people from his group who were making their plates and having a great time together. I told him thanks and he walked away. I had nibbled on the pork for about five minutes, when I saw him returning over to where I was sitting. This time he had a plate of cucumbers. He gave them to me and simply said, "may God bless you." Again, I told him thanks.
About five minutes later, a lady from their group motioned for me to come over. The lady shouted, "come eat Korean food with us!" It was an offer that I could not refuse. I sat down at the table and did not recognize a whole lot of what was set before me. But, I was willing to give all of it a try. They placed several different foods on my plate. They spent about five minutes with me going over how I should be holding the chop sticks. Finally, I ate. Not only did I eat, I ate a lot. Not only did I eat a lot, I really liked it. By the time Luis returned, I was fool.
After I had finished eating, we talked for a little while. I found out that every person at the table was a believer of Jesus Christ. I asked them if they all went to the same church, completely expecting that they were going to say yes.
They said no. They said that they worked together at the same business and company and gathered together on Labor Day to encourage one another.
I was again reminded that we are part of a larger church than our local congregation. The body of Christ extends far beyond borders, races, and denominations. I was genuinely encouraged by spending time with these believers. I know that God led me to them or them to me to continue to open up my eyes about the magnificence of His majesty. It is beyond me and I am glad.
